Senior Accountant in Brussels - International company

Our client is a leading international trading and supply chain organization with a long-established presence across Europe and a strong global footprint. Active in the distribution and trading of industrial and chemical products, the company combines commercial expertise, logistics capabilities, and financial strength to support international business operations.

As Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of accounting operations, compliance, and financial reporting within an international business environment. Working closely with a Shared Service Center and stakeholders across Europe, your responsibilities will include:

• Managing monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities, including accruals, reconciliations, and balance sheet reviews;
• Acting as the accounting reference point for the Belgian entity and overseeing the quality of accounting transactions processed by the Shared Service Center;
• Taking ownership of VAT compliance, tax-related reporting, and statutory obligations across multiple European jurisdictions;
• Coordinating annual audits and supporting the preparation of statutory financial statements;
• Partnering with business teams to provide accounting and tax guidance on commercial and operational activities;
• Ensuring compliance with local regulations, internal controls, and group accounting policies;
• Identifying opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen controls, and drive continuous improvement initiatives;
• Contributing to digitization and automation projects, including the adoption of innovative technologies and AI-driven solutions;

The ideal candidate combines technical accounting expertise with a strong process improvement mindset and has an interest in digital transformation and emerging technologies such as AI.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
• Minimum 4 years of accounting experience within an international or B2B environment;
• Strong understanding of Belgian GAAP and VAT regulations;
• Experience with statutory accounting and external audits;
• Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA or SAP Hana is considered a strong asset;
• Fluent in English and French; Dutch is a plus;
• Analytical, detail-oriented, and process-minded;
• Comfortable working with multiple stakeholders in an international environment;
• Proactive, hands-on, and eager to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives;
